Backworth-bred daughter of Kahal and Gr1 Allan Robertson winner Chocolicious has foaled a Fastnet Rock filly in Australia. Chocolicious earned a Merit Rating of 105 in her career, winning six races in South Africa from 1000m to 1200m including the prestigious Gr1 Allan Robertson Championship, and securing a solid third in the UAE 1000 Guineas (Listed) in Dubai behind the Galileo pairing of Mahbooba and Reem.

The first foal from KZN-bred Chocolicious is a yearling filly by Frankel. The sire of her current foal is Fastnet Rock (Danehill), a Champion 3-year-old Colt and Champion Sprinter in Australia 2004/05 and needs little introduction. This current Champion Sire in Australia for the second time boasts 18 individual Gr1 winners from his first five crops and over the weekend took his overall total to 87 Stakes Winners.

As a broodmare sire Kahal is currently boasting a 25% winners to runners percentage, on a par with Western Winter and National Assembly. Fastnet Rock is the sire of Bush Hill Stud’s exciting Gr2 winning sire Curved Ball, whose first crop are two year olds and the first grand children of Australia’s Champion Sire to hit the tracks soon in South Africa. Kahal also stood at Bush Hill Stud prior to his death last year aged 20, and recently lead the National Sires Log by Stakes Earned.

Fastnet Rock recently sold a yearling filly at Keeneland for US$1-million plus. Diamondsandrubies recently won the Gr1 Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh, whilst Qualify won the Gr1 Oaks at Epsom in June. Congratulations on the brilliant news to Keith and Ian at Backworth Stud!
