KZN-bred Roy’s Gold, a daughter of Horse Chestnut out of Western Winter mare African Gold, gave Yogas Govender his first win as an open trainer at Scottsville over 1950m.

It was the first win for Roy’s Gold, bred and owned by KZN Breeders Club director Roy Moodley in partnership with Mr Y Naidoo and K Singh. The four year old filly who has placed three times previously (two of them for Yogas), was born and raised at Koos and Lorraine De Klerk’s Yellow Star Stud.

Yogas, always with a bright friendly smile and enthusing positivity commented on his first win: “It has taken a lot of pressure off us! After having a highly successful time at the track over the years, going on your own – there is always the element of attracting the horses and owners which is the first step, but now that I have this win under the belt I am doing what I have always done before – focusing and building the business, having winners and just progressing from there.

“Fortunately I have got some very nice prominent owners supporting me such as Mary Slack, Braam Van Huysteen, Anant Singh, Manie Pillay and of course Roy Moodley. I have some really nice young horses that have been bought for me, two year olds, and we waiting for them to come through their paces and start racing.”

“Roy’s Gold in her first start for me, ran third from a wide draw, then her second start was a bad draw and tried different tactics and it didn’t work out for her, but she still managed to place third. The 1950m is a bit long for her, but she is improving with every run for me. We will look for a nice mile for her, put the blinkers back on and see how competitive she is.”

Yogas comments on what we have to look forward to on the track. “We have a lot of nice young horses coming through but obviously when they start racing it will really tell, but I am very happy with what we have and what we are seeing at the moment, its very positive!”

Congratulations to Yogas Govender and we look forward to reporting on many more winners!
