Badger’s Drift First Foal At Wood-Moore Manor Stud

Badger's Drift x Corn Syrup

Badger’s Drift had his first foal arrive at Wood-Moore Manor Stud early this morning. A lovely bay filly out of Corn Syrup, HIH Wayne Kobusch von Konigsberg describes the filly as “a strapping strong filly – confident and friendly”.

Corn Syrup (Qui Danzig – Hot Corn by Harry Hotspur) was herself a winner over 1600 metres and placed 14 times. She is the dam of 2 winners including a filly called Illovo by Sharp Romance(USA), and a colt called Faversham by Anytime (IRE). Corn Syrup currently has an unraced 3 year old filly (Rose Du Sable) and a 2 year old colt (Ellipsis) both by Miesque’s Approval, with a yearling filly called Golden Mirabilis also by Miesque’s Approval.

Corn Syrup comes from an exceptional dam line, with her own dam being Hot Corn. She was voted Joint ARCSA Champion 3 Year Old Sprinting Filly in 1980 with 12 wins under her belt and is the dam of 6 runners and 3 winners. Corn Syrup’s fourth dam is Popcorn, and amongst her descendants includes the likes of Festive Season, Festive Forever, Rain Forest, Marathon Man, Shah’s Star, Swartland, Lion’s Blood and Chief Warden, and the list goes on!

Badger’s Drift is proving himself a worthy stallion with the likes of Hospitality, Lord Badger and Act of Supremacy representing him strongly on the racetracks. The latter two horses have both beaten 2 year old Champion In A Rush on separate occasions.
His most notable son is Ivory Trail, winner of the Grade 1 Champions Cup over 1800 metres, the Gr2 Peninsula Handicap over 1800 metres, the Grade 3 Langerman Handicap over 1500m and the Listed Memorial Mile over 1600 metres. Badger’s Drift has also produced useful Group-placed fillies. Imperialist, who is out of a Northfields mare, was placed in the Grade 2 Debutante while Collateral, from the Al Mufti mare Winning Touch was placed in a Listed race and in the Grade 3 Pretty Polly Stakes.

Badger’s Drift (by Badger Land) topped the Stallions list for 3 year olds in South Africa in July 2011 with an impressive strike rate of 73% for runners to winners. He was the Leading Sire in KZN of Runners to Winners for the 2010-2011 breeding and racing season ending 31 July 2011. He was voted Champion Freshman sire in 2007, with a strong pedigree and race record to back it up, being out of Champion race and broodmare On The Roof by Thatching.

This filly has plenty of potential for the track, as well as paddock value and is an exciting prospect.
Badger’s Drift’s stud fee for 2011 is R10 000 (Live Foal) and he is free to Black Type mares.
