Mogok achieved a hat trick at the Vaal on Tuesday when the first three races of the day with Magic, Supanova and Battle Of Arcole, two of them bred by Scott Bros and a double for Leon Erasmus.

Three year old gelding Magic, bred by Almiray Farm out of Mythical Model by Model Man has previously been ever so unlucky, finishing second six times before finally getting the win over 1000m by almost two lengths – making it the first on the day of a double for Leon Erasmus. Sold at the 2014 KZN Yearling Sale for just R40 000 under the banner of Rathmor Stud as agent, and owned and trained by Leon Erasmus, the gelding has won over R160 000 to date.

Supanova followed this up in Race 2, winning over 1000m by a length from talented La Tasca. A full-brother to Gr3 placed Mogok’s Desire, Supanova has yet to be out of the places from six starts – this being the second win for owner Mr I Snyman. Supanova is beautifully bred out of Australian filly Royal Promise, a daughter of Royal Academy. Supanova sold for R450 000 at the 2013 National Yearling Sale.

The third win of the day came from Battle Of Arcole, beautifully bred on a cross that produced Gr1 winning Orbison. Out of Foveros mare Rose Of Arcole, the five year old gelding is owned by Mr and Mrs AJ MacDonald and trained by Wallace Tolmay. This is the first win for the horse, after placing consistently 10 times, only out of the money for three of them. Battle Of Arcole sold for R180 000 at the 2012 National Yearling Sale.

Battle Of Arcole’s full brother, four year old Run For Roses, impressed with a winning debut on 3 September by almost three lengths for trainer Tyrone Zackey.

Mogok currently lies in sixth position on the National Sires Log by Stakes Earned, headed up by Gr1 Gold Cup winner Wild One.

Mogok stands for a fee of R20 000 this season.
