Eight-consecutive season Champion breeders’ Summerhill Stud have seen the arrival of 26 colts and 44 fillies (as of Monday 10th September) so far this season and we have a look at some of the outstanding foals that have arrived from Bankable(IRE) and Brave Tin Soldier(USA).

Bankable was the first son of Medicean (by Machiavellian) to stand in South Africa, and unfortunately he only covered one book of mares before his untimely passing earlier this year. A handsome individual with a regal pedigree – being out of a Sadler’s Wells’ mare, in turn out of an Irish River/Habitat mare, he won three times in Dubai including a Gr 2 and Gr 3 with a Timeform Rating of 122.

He has certainly passed his outstanding looks, quality and substance onto his foals – certain to be kept an eye on for the future. Medicean has proven himself a sire-of-sires, his son Dutch Art leading the way as a champion freshman sire.

With the pedigrees and exceptional looks of his foals, they will certainly be attracting attention when their time comes to enter the auction ring.

Brave Tin Soldier has the honour of gracing Summerhill’s annual Sires Brochure this year, a stallion with a beautiful head and chiseled features – his world-record price of $3 million as a foal is certainly displayed in his outstanding conformation and looks – and one of the best pedigrees on paper one can find.

A Gr 3 winner, he is by world-champion sire Storm Cat out of Bless by Mr Prospector. His dam Bless is herself a full-sister to Gr 1 Kentucky Derby winner (and a sire of Gr 1 winners himself) Fusaichi Pegasus.

This is a pedigree that carries enormous strength, with his third dam being by Danzig out of a Halo mare. This season sees the second crop of Brave Tin Soldier’s progeny on the ground and we feature a few of his first foals below.
