|Summerhill Welcome First Bankable Foals|
Eight-consecutive season Champion breeders’ Summerhill Stud have seen the arrival of 26 colts and 44 fillies (as of Monday 10th September) so far this season and we have a look at some of the outstanding foals that have arrived from Bankable(IRE) and Brave Tin Soldier(USA).
Bankable was the first son of Medicean (by Machiavellian) to stand in South Africa, and unfortunately he only covered one book of mares before his untimely passing earlier this year. A handsome individual with a regal pedigree – being out of a Sadler’s Wells’ mare, in turn out of an Irish River/Habitat mare, he won three times in Dubai including a Gr 2 and Gr 3 with a Timeform Rating of 122.
He has certainly passed his outstanding looks, quality and substance onto his foals – certain to be kept an eye on for the future. Medicean has proven himself a sire-of-sires, his son Dutch Art leading the way as a champion freshman sire.
With the pedigrees and exceptional looks of his foals, they will certainly be attracting attention when their time comes to enter the auction ring.
Brave Tin Soldier has the honour of gracing Summerhill’s annual Sires Brochure this year, a stallion with a beautiful head and chiseled features – his world-record price of $3 million as a foal is certainly displayed in his outstanding conformation and looks – and one of the best pedigrees on paper one can find.
A Gr 3 winner, he is by world-champion sire Storm Cat out of Bless by Mr Prospector. His dam Bless is herself a full-sister to Gr 1 Kentucky Derby winner (and a sire of Gr 1 winners himself) Fusaichi Pegasus.
This is a pedigree that carries enormous strength, with his third dam being by Danzig out of a Halo mare. This season sees the second crop of Brave Tin Soldier’s progeny on the ground and we feature a few of his first foals below.
Lady Perez has a lovely foal this season, beautifully conformed with very good bone by Bankable.
Lady Perez is by West Man out of Rosie Perez by Cordoba.
She is a four-time winner including the Listed Goldfields Sprint, and placed second in the Gr 2 Camelia Stakes, Gr 2 Magnolia Handicap and a third in the SA Fillies Sprint Gr 1.
This is the dam-line of 15-time mulitiple Listed winner Brigadier Parker, Little Arrow, Gr 3 Breeders Fillies Champion Stakes winner Saint Helier, and Gr 2 winner Lestat, Gr 2 Bloodline Fillies Guineas winner American Connection, Speaking Oak and Listed winner Golden Bow.
This is the third produce of Lady Perez, her eldest an unraced two-year old.
Four Ladies Wild, by Western Winter out of Wild Daisy by Arbat, has a smart bay colt by Bankable this season with a lovely pedigree, inbred to Mr Prospector and Northern Dancer.
Four Ladies Wild is a three-time winner and placed nine times. She is a full sister to Bold Black Type Running Wild, a seven-time winner. The first dam Wild Daisy has produced five runners and five winners to date.
Under the second dam Wild Flame, who produced eight winners in total, there is Sunny Flame, a three-time winner in South Africa and four wins in Mauritius and placed fifteen times.
Other descendants of this damline include Gr 2 placed Flaming Axe, Collectors Item, Gr 1 Oaks winner Tsessebe, Gr 1 Castle Tankard winner Will To Win, sire Free Will, Natal Oaks winner With Pleasure, yet another Natal Oaks winner Victoria Bay, SA Oaks winner Torpedo Boat and more recently Syon, Noblewood, Joshua Tree, eight-time winner Hundred Acre Wood and Golden Oriole.
Lotti by National Emblem, has produced an athletic-looking foal by Bankable. Lotti is out of Waterville Lake mare, Interlocking Lake.
Lotti is a three-time winner, including the Listed Juvenile Fillies Stakes, as well as placing in the Natal Golden Slipper Gr 2 and Debutante Stakes Gr 3.
She has produced four winners to date, including Hlabelela, a four-time winner herself and more recently full-brothers by Kahal, Kapellmeister and Acapella.
This is a dam-line that includes the likes of seven-time Bold Black Type winner Royal Day, ARCSA Champion Older Female 1988 Evening Mist, Misty Peak, multiple Grade winning Ingleside, Lucky Lad, Gr 2 Majorca Stakes winner Star Award, Knock Out and Silver Series – just a few to mention from a family filled with Black Type.
Hot Reception has a lovely big foal with plenty of good bone and strong hindquarters by Brave Tin Soldier this season.
The mare is by Muhtafal out of Triple Tempo by Northern Guest, is a five-time winner including the Gr 3 Poinsettia Stakes. Her 2009 filly by Stronghold named Getagrip sold for R100 000 at the 2011 Emperors Palace Ready-To-Run sale. She has a 2010 colt named Shakaland by Kahal.
Hot Reception is a full-sister to 10-time winning The Waltz, whose wins include consecutive victories in the Gr 3 Christmas Handicap and Gr 3 King’s Cup. She is also a half-sister to Dot Dot Dash, a Gr 2 placed and Listed winner, and the dam of El Padrino (by Muhtafal).
This is another extensive dam-line bursting with Bold Black Type such as J&B Met winner Bunter Barlow, sire The Red Baron, Gr 3 winner Mrs Pankhurst, Gr 3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery winner Hell’s Angel and Triumphant Lady – to name but a few in this pedigree.
Jordie, by Fard out of Daggers Drawn by Braashee, has produced a foal that has inherited sire Brave Tin Soldier’s athleticsm and good looks. The mare is a winner, and has produced a winner by Stronghold named River Tyne – who has also placed in the Lady’s Slipper Stakes Listed. Jordie also has a 2010 Stronghold colt named Dan Dare.
Second dam is Blue Yonder, the dam of Gr 3 Lebelo Sprint winner Blue Voyager (by Muhtafal).
This is another dam-line that is soaked in Bold-Black Type with the fourth dam being Gr 1 Cape Of Good Hope Paddock Stakes winner, Majorca.
It starts with the likes of six-time Listed winner Naan Khataay, Gr 2 Natalia Stakes winner Haiti, Mauritian winner Main Warrior, SA Fillies Classic Gr 1 winner Spiced Gold, 11-time winner Aegean, Freedom Fortune, Studio Fifty Four and Catchpenny.
