2011 Ready-To-Run Sale Preview

The 2011 Ready-To-Run gallops take place today at Turffontein Racecourse from midday, with the majority of the horses being shown at Summerhill Stud on Friday, from 11:30. A panel of judges provide an informative insight afterwards advising which horses were the best shown. The panel includes some of the best judges of horses in the country including Mike de Kock, Jehan Malherbe, Joey Ramsden, Sean Tarry, Graeme Hawkins, Michael Roberts and Kip Elser, the owner of Kirkwood Stables in America.

The sale takes place on the 6 November at the TBA complex, the day after the running of the Emperors Palace Ready-To-Run Cup for the 2010 sale graduates.

Horses sold at the sale will automatically qualify to run in the 2012 Emperors Palace Ready to Run Cup, with a stakes of R2 million on offer. The most prestigious horses to have come off this sale are this years Vodacom Durban July winner, and 2011 Equus Horse Of The Year Igugu(AUS), who sold for R1 000 000 at this sale, and was well worth her price tag. The horse that ran second to her, Pierre Jourdan was a 2008 graduate of the same sale – and a bargain at just R60 000! Interesting to note too that both were raised and grazed at Summerhill Stud.

There are some beautifully bred horses on offer, with current Champion Breeders Summerhill Stud making up the bulk of the catalogue. They have quite a few very well-bred imports from Argentina and Australia on offer.
