Somerset Stud – Thank You

Vera and Alan Sutherland of Somerset Stud would like to convey to all the buyers and underbidders their grateful thanks for the solid support shown for the progeny of King Of Kings(IRE) at the recent Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale.

“Our thanks to the King Of Kings Partnership and KZN Breeders for their loyal support in the stallion, for sticking to their guns and turning their yearlings out so well for the sale. We were thrilled he was the top sire of the sale – 20 lots sold at the average price of R71,000 each. It was lovely indeed to sell yearlings in such an upbeat market.

“A gallant forth for King’s Temptress (King Of Kings) in the Group One Durban Golden Slipper Two-year old fillies race on July Day proved her ‘shock’ win in the Group 2 SA Fillies Nursery where she defeated Franny and Ihla Da Rock, in Johannesburg, was no ‘fluke’.”

We are sure to see much more from the progeny of King Of Kings, and judging by the yearlings sold, the future remains exciting.

The top-selling colt by King Of Kings at the recent sale was consigned by Spring Valley Stud, Lot 163, an unnamed flashy chestnut colt out of Andaman Pearl by Secret Prospector bought by The Tawny Syndicate for R120 000. He is a half-brother to two winners, with his dam being an own-sister to sire What A Prospect.

Please take note of the supplementary late entry on the KZN Mixed Sale taking place at Yellow Star Stud at 12pm tomorrow – an outstanding broodmare prospect by International Broodmare Sire King Of Kings out of Melting by Our Casey’s Boy named Reigning Queen. She is Lot 139 being offered by Mr Paul Rhodes & Partnership, is a half-sister to Meltaway, the dam of Gr 1 placed Zeeno. This is also the family of Pisces Star, Ice Diamond, Gluwein and Alpine Club.

King Of Kings had a maternal grandson named Zambezi Torrent, out of Zooming Zellie(USA), sell for R1 150 000 earlier this year in the Cape.

King Of Kings stands at Clifton Stud for a R20 000 live foal fee. Contact Peter Blyth on 082 456 3489 to find out more or email blyth@cliftonstud.co.za.
