Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale: First Day Results

The Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale saw the first 150 Lots knocked down out of 262 offered over two days. The average remains above the previous years, with the top priced horse of the sale to date being a Trippi filly for R600 000, Lot 72 beautifully named Announcing Rain.

The top-priced colt [pictured above] went to Spring Valley Stud who had an outstanding Kahal colt, Lot 147, an unnamed colt out of Gr1 and Gr3 placed Miss Zummerudd by King of Kings, who sold for R340 000 to Ian Van Schalkwyk.

The top-priced KZN-bred filly sold from Scott Bros, an eye-catching daughter of Mogok [pictured right] out of Majestic Legend by Royal Academy who sold as Lot 138 to Tyronne Zackey.

Spring Valley also sold a magnificent well-grown colt for R230 000 by Curved Ball, a son of Fastnet Rock standing at Bush Hill Stud. The colt named Pinball who sold as Lot 101, is from the family of Silver Flyer, Love Is In The Air and Rootin’ Tootin.

Kevin Woolward commented on the performance of the sale: “It was a tough sale, the middle market was missing and times are tight, the aggregate is up by 13%, the average is down by 4% at this stage last year, and the median is down 7% on the median from last year, at this stage.

“We had a wide variety of buyers present at the sale which was great to see. Tomorrow there are 112 Lots and hopefully we can maintain the current average. There are some very nice horses on sale tomorrow and we should see some decent prices tomorrow.”

The aggregate overall was R13 727 000, with the average being R104 786 and the median R65 000.

The sale continues tomorrow from 12pm with Lots 151 to 262 falling under the hammer. A live webcast will be available off www.tba.co.za.
