One of the brightest stars in the Ballydoyle firmament at the start of the year, Flying The Flag’s full sister Rhododendron claimed a hard-fought victory over stablemate Hydrangea, her second Gr1 victory to date for the Irish Champion Juvenile filly.
The bay son of Linngari and a previous Gr2 winner and Gr1 placed, Garlingari walked away with the Gr3 La Coupe de Maisons-Laffitte on the weekend over 2000m in France. Linngari, a son of Indian Ridge, has produced a lifetime winners to runners percentage of an impressive 60% with progeny the world over.
The Scott Bros’ liver chestnut Gr1 producing mare and KZN Breeders Broodmare Of The Year for 2016, Tellittothestars has produced a Mogok filly at Highdown Stud the night before last.
The first foal by Gr1 winning son of Dubawi, Willow Magic, has arrived at Summerhill Stud. Certainly stamped by his impressive chestnut sire, Willow Magic is the only Gr1 winning son of Dubawi at stud in the Southern Hemisphere.

The big sale at Summerhill on Sunday 14th May looks like “opportunity” with a capital “O”. While it’s obviously the golden chance to grab a clutch of broodmare gems, history only has to repeat itself for the Summerhill offering of 80 weanlings to throw up some elite racehorses, and all it calls for is for buyers to plunge their hands into a “pipe” which has yielded more premierships than any other in modern history. The bonus is that the old adage “the early bird catches the worm” applies here, too. A timeous application for the three payment credit terms will put you in the box seat to get what you like, when you want it.

Once again KZN broodmares were in demand at the Backworth Stud Dispersal Sale with most of them sold beyond the borders of KZN, which included stock from Summerhill and Janet Baker Properties. Noble Tune sold the top priced yearling.
