Africa Rising made a very pleasing comeback at the Vaal yesterday under jockey Lyle Hewitson.

The Summerhill-bred gelding by Visionaire out of Sucha Look by Braashee limped quietly off the Greyville track during the running of the Daily News 2000 in June 2017 where he was injured, and made a come back in the Gr2 Merchants at the end of last year to finish five lengths off another Sumerhill-bred, the The Thinker.

Carrying top weight of 61kgs at the Vaal, Africa Rising put them to sleep by winning by a quarter of a length over the 1200m and showed his turn of foot, in the process defeating the very smart Gr1 winner, Mustaaqeem, who had his first defeat yesterday.

The handsome chestnut won the Gr3 Byerley Turk in April 2017 over 1400m. To date he has had four wins and four places from 12 races, earning over R1,005,750 in stakes.

This is the damline of Salutation, Black Wing, Charisma and Stud Master – the dam of Africa Rising has produced three winners to date, including 5-time winner, What Me Worry.
