Bush Hill Stud had a good weekend at the KZN Breeders Awards as well as on the racetracks across South Africa and in the North with Zimbabwe’s top three year old Newton Power.

Newton Power, by Newton out of Red Spirit by Slew The Red, has now won three in a row at Borrowdale Park. Zimbabwe’s leading Three Year Old is now being aimed at the Zimbabwe Guineas Gr 3 next, according to Glenwood Racing on their social media pages.

Newton Power, a good-looking colt owned by Messrs G P & K M Mansour, J M Eaton, G M Littleford, S H Murray & V C Veeramootoo & Mr & Mrs P C Rugg and trained by Gokhan Terzi, was bred at Warwick and Karin Renders’ Bush Hill Stud by Grant and Carla Mansour.

Bush Hill Stud recently took home several KZN Breeders Awards – for The Mouseketeer who produced two Group wins in the last racing season with the Gr 3 August Stakes and Gr 2 Emerald Cup (winning KZN Breeders Award for Outstanding Male Sprinter), Seal who won the Gr 2 Gold Vase on Vodacom Durban July day (KZN Breeders Award for Outstanding Male Stayer – born and raised at Bush Hill on behalf of breeder Dr Ian Heyns) and on behalf of Shadwell Stud for resident Champion sire, Kahal, as KZN Breeders Stallion Of The Year.

Newton Power has won at Borrowdale over distances of 1000m – 1450m and made a cracking winning debut by an incredible 10.50 lengths in September.

Glenwood Racing reported on their Facebook page: “Newton Power remains unbeaten three from three including two feature races. He broke through the stalls, stumbling as the gates opened and still got up to win like a champion that he is! Next stop Zimbabwe Guineas (GR 3). Well done to all concerned, JP Van Der Merwe and breeders Bush Hill Stud!”

His dam Red Spirit has a yearling filly by Ravishing at Bush Hill Stud. This is the family of Clifton Queen, First Arrival and Equus Champion Lets Rock ‘n Roll.

Another Newton stand-out is Handsome Hudson, out of the Kahal mare Sheer Brilliance. Trained by Bill Human and owned by Mr L Human, Handsome Hudson was bred by Mr H Da Costa and has now won his last three races at Flamingo Park over distances of 1600 – 1800m. To date he has earned over R120 000 in stakes – his race record stands at four wins, including a win at Turffontein, and placing four times.

His full-sister Dux very recently placed in her first start at Scottsville.

Handsome Hudson descends from an exceptional dam-line that includes Thousand Nights – dam of Highland Night, Warm White Night, Prince Asad and Night Watch – as well family of Fort Vogue. Sheer Brilliance stands for her owners at Bush Hill Stud and has a lovely Mogok filly this year.

To add to the weekend, Love Struck, by Kahal ran to a powerful victory in the Guineas Trial Listed at Clairwood on Saturday.

Bush Hill Stud has an exciting band of stallions with the likes of Curved Ball(AUS), King’s Chapel(AUS) who recently produced a Gr 3 winner overseas and Kahal(GB).
