The magnificent Australian-bred bay son of Danehill, Overlord, is producing the goods on Greyville’s artificial surface and achieved a double for the Scott Bros on 24 October.

Aptly, the first horse to win in the trials on Greyville’s newly installed artificial surface was Scott Bros-bred Apache Rose by Overlord, a half-brother trained by Doug Campbell to multiple Group winner The Apache, now standing at stud in the Cape at Rosedene.

The first of the evening saw Burrwood grab his fourth win. A R50 000 Two Year Old Sale graduate out of a Secret Prospector mare Secretaire, Burrwood has placed 11 times previously – his last two wins on the Poly for trainer Colin Scott and owners’ Messrs R T Scott & R M Scott.

This win was followed by another Overlord, the Scott Bros-bred Summer Sixtynine, who also had her first win over 1400m at Greyville for trainer G/K Anthony and owners Messrs A Sukhraj & S Sukhraj & Mrs K Anthony by almost two lengths. Unsold at the 2012 KZN Yearling Sale, this is the first win for the four year old filly, who has also placed three times at Clairwood and Scottsville.

Bush Hill born and raised Gemini Gold has also won three times, the last two on the Poly at Greyville for trainer and part owner Dennis Bosch as well as his breeder H C N da Costa & Messrs M de Lange. Gemini Gold seems to relish the surface, and has only been out of the money once in his career from eight starts.

Overlord’s runners to winners percentage on artificial surface is an impressive 38%, with 28% runs to places. One of the best bred stallions to come to South Africa, a handsome bay standing 16hh with a super temperament and powerful hindquarters, Overlord is out of Prawn Cocktail by Artichoke. A record-priced yearling, selling for AUS$2.2million, he raced in Australia, America and South Africa to get two wins over 1200m – 1800m. His second dam is Crimson Saint – the dam of great stallion Royal Academy (sire of Ato) and Terlingua – the latter the dam of Champion Storm Cat. His half-brother Lizard Island produced Gr1 winner Lizard’s Desire.
