| Emperors Palace Ready-To-Run Gallops At Summerhill Stud |
The Emperors Palace Ready-To-Run Sale Gallops took place on a magnificent blue skies at Summerhill Stud. In typical Summerhill fashion, it was a superbly organised day together with Bloodstock South Africa, with the who’s who of racing present from breeders to trainers and owners, including many VIP’s such as the King of Lesotho, to assess and watch the talented two-year olds line up for their gallops.
The draft is predominantly represented by Summerhill Stud, with Yellow Star, Balmoral Stud, Ambleway Thoroughbreds and Far End Pre-training all showing their drafts on the day. The horses were all beautifully presented and turned out.
The judging panel consisted of Alec Laird, Michael Roberts, Japanese guest and veterinarian from Shadai Breeding Station (where Admire Main began his stud career) – Yusuke Tsukahara, Graeme Hawkins, Dean Kannemeyer, Jehan Malherbe, Sean Tarry and Mike De Kock. Admire Main had yet another winner in Monbetsu, Japan, yesterday with Mio Charleston.
After day of watching our next generation of potential champions being put through their paces while guests enjoyed drinks, snacks and lunch, the panel convened immediately the gallops. The final verdict came down to the favourites being from the Summerhill draft – the colts were Lots 88 Ilitshe(AUS), Lot 157 Die Kat(AUS), and Lot 31 from Balmoral being an unnamed son of KZN-bred Jet Master.
The favourite fillies were Lot 199 named Ikimasu (by Admire Main), Lot 47 named Mystical Star (another by KZN-bred Jet Master) and Lot 120, again by Admire Main named Admiral’s Eye – a filly who is a half-sibling to three Black Type racehorses in Saltwater Girl and Rapid Flow (both owned by Alesh Naidoo) and Shogunnar who placed third in the Gr 1 Daily News 2000. All the fillies are consigned by Summerhill Stud.
Tony Rivalland’s choices for the day were colts Lot 88, Lot 157 and Lot 31, and fillies being Lot 47, 199 and 120. Gavin Van Zyl selected Lot 17 (Francois P, by Captain Al out of Great Wall by Fort Wood, consigned by Summerhill Stud) as his best selection.
Garth Puller selected the best rider of the day as being Summerhill Jockey Smallboy – a rider who has ridden the likes of Paris To Peking and Smangeliso in the Ready-To-Run Gallops.
