The Apache did the Scott Bros proud once again, galloping to a powerful finish and closing in on the winner Sajjhaa to finish a close second in the Gr 1 Jebel Hatta Stakes.

The son of Mogok, who has a full-sister (named Bold Pocahontas – Lot 286) at the upcoming Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale bred and consigned by Scott Bros, ran over 1800m at Meydan on turf in good going. Champion filly Igugu(AUS) finished in sixth position. The winner named Sajjhaa is by King’s Best and bred by Darley in the UK. The Apache won his first start out in Dubai a few weeks ago in the Gr 2 Al Rashidiya.

An R80 000 National Yearling Sales graduate, the mikedekockracing.com website says of the race on Saturday: ‘Mike was full of praise too, for another South African-bred runner The Apache (ridden by Chris Soumillon), who ran his heart out in the Gr 1 Jebel Hatta over 1800m on turf – taking second to Godolphin’s formidable mare Shajjhaa.’ Mike went onto say that: “The Apache is a much improved horse and he ran out of his skin. Coming to the 200m-mark he had the race by the scruff of the neck and we were getting ready to celebrate when Sajhaa came storming up to deny him a big win.”
