TBA National Yearling Sales Catalogue – Registered ‘KZN-breds’

The TBA National Yearling Sale come up on 22, 23 and 24th April where 128 yearlings will be available from KZN. Champion sire Kahal is represented by twenty horses on the catalogue alone, and back in his previous position of fourth on the National Sires Log, as well as carrying the title of National Leading Sire on Sand.

Yearlings registered with the KZN Breeders Premium Scheme qualify for our KZN Breeders Race Day, including our Series of eight races for a stake of R200 000 each; two of them for Juveniles. Horses must be three and four years old with a suitable Merit Rating to qualify for the big KZN Breeders Million Mile. See the list below for qualifying horses.

First season sires who have their first progeny on offer come from Summerhill’s son of High Chapparal, Golden Sword, which have nine available ranging from Barton Hall Stud, Mauritzfontein and Summerhill. The other is another Summerhill resident sire, Traffic Guard by More Than Ready.

The National Leading Sire on Artificial Surface (Polytrack), is Scott Bros’ Miesque’s Approval – reinforced with the first three across the line at Greyville on Sunday in Race 3 over 1600m won by Rocky Bay, an incredible feat for a stallion. The sire of recent Gr2 winner Judicial, has a daughter who is a half-sister to Gr2 winning Bezanova on offer from Clifton Stud, as well as a chestnut filly who is a half-sister to South African and UK-raced Winter Fever from Scott Bros.

Other standouts include Rathmor’s chestnut half-sister to American Gr1 winning Gypsy’s Warning by Silvano. Named Judy Silvano, she is a very good-looking quality filly who is also a half-sister to Gr2 winning Surabi.

Ken Twort of Barton Hall Stud always produces a good-looking yearling, with three on offer including by Kahal and Sail From Seattle. Lot 345 out of Al Mufti mare Quatrain, by Sail From Seattle, is a second foal for the mare from the damline of Gr3 winner Success Counts.

Backworth Stud have a Kahal bay filly out of Refined Gold by Rich Man’s Gold. She is a half-sister to Silvano colt Alloy who sold at the Nationals for R1-million last year, and to Trippi filly Spangle, a winner who has placed twice from all of her starts. They also have a super Pathfork chestnut filly out of Plush, the first foal for the full sister to Wonder Lawn out of the brilliant Brazilian mare, Velvet Green.

Bush Hill Stud have several very well-bred Kahals and a King’s Chapel, including two from the immediate family of Zirconeum and Stellite; as well as a half-sister to Stakes Winning Kings Neptune, who placed third on the weekend in the Gr3 Kings Cup.

As mentioned above, Clifton Stud have a half-sister to Bezanova on offer, and Gr3 winning Flash Drive. Lot 233 is a colt by Fort Wood.

Cathy and Jonathan Martin have Lot 89, a filly half-sister to 16-time Stakes Winning Celtic Fire by Bold Silvano. Rob Pickering of Middlefield Stud is offering a Fort Wood first produce from a half-sister to 8-time winning Mr Brock (by Fort Wood). This is the immediate family of Horse Chestnut.

Lee and Dino Scribante of Piemonte Stud have a lovely draft of yearlings on offer, including the aptly named Lot 69, Lee’s Pick. A third foal, by Kris S. sire Philanthropist, beautifully bred three-time winning mare Boreal Applause is from the immediate family of sire Shamikh.

Roski Stud, breeders of Dubai winner Journeyman, consigns yet another quality draft on offer, and Juli Santini says her pick is Lot 39 by Toreador, a colt named Cool Beenz. He is a full-brother to 4-time winning Crissy Sanchez and a half-brother to recent winner Cassie O’ Malley.

Scott Bros draft consists of siblings to Group and Stakes Winners. They include a dark bay full-sister to Gr1 Champions Cup Orbison, who famously beat Pocket Power in the Champions Cup. She is a dead-ringer for her international Group winning and producing sire Mogok – a striking dark bay filly named Pretty Woman with his white blaze running down her face.

Bruce Le Roux always produces a draft of good horses, and this year they include the second produce from Gr2 winning Bedloe’s Island, by Kahal. She is a half-sister to Buy And Sell, as well as Count The Money.

Yellow Star Stud, birthplace of Futura, offer five yearlings by Kildonan, the sire of Gr2 winning Rosier. They include Lot 339 named Kintyre, a half-sister to two Graded-placed horses; Abingdon and Hillbrow. A fourth produce, she is a half-sister three winners from the family of Up The Creek and Valley Dancer.

Yearlings registered with the KZN Breeders Premium Scheme will once again have KZN hip-stickers and posters placed on their stable doors.
