The Michael Holmes Horses In Training Sale took place on Wednesday at the Durban Shongweni Club. The overcast weather with a bit of rain didnt deter the sale from being a full house of buyers, with plenty of trainers and buyers coming not only from KZN, but Gauteng and the Northern Cape.

The KZN-bred top seller was a beautiful Muhtafal colt sold as Lot 118, named Chosen Dash [pictured]. Bred and owned by Dr G Baitz and Mr Cecil Baitz, the bay colt has had only one run, winning first time out by just over seven lengths at 33/1 over 800m at Greyville.

Chosen Dash sold for R300 000, and looks to be a strong contender after being supplemented for the KZN Breeders Series of races for a stake of R200 000 each immediately after the sale. He will competing for a place in the juvenile race over 1200m on 28 June 2015.

Chosen Dash is out of Jallad mare, Carla’s Wisdom and from the immediate family of The Waltz and Hot Reception.

Lot 163, a lovely chestnut gelding by Fort Beluga out of National Assembley mare Lady Bequick, sold for R130 000 to Manie Pillay. The gelding has won and placed three times from six starts, placing fifth twice. The mare placed second in the Gr3 Sycamore Sprint and is a half-sister to dual Gr2 winner Kapil.

Kahal’s Stakes winning six-year old gelding Distinguished, sold for R70 000 to the Laird Racing Stable, consigned by Mayfair Speculators.
