After last year’s success of the KZN Breeders Dressage Challenge which was enthusiastically supported by competitive Thoroughbred owners in the discipline of Dressage, KZN Breeders and KZN Dressage have once again joined to highlight the Thoroughbred horse and their successful competitive careers after racing.

The KZN Breeders Association, a club comprising of Stud farms who breed racehorses in the province of Kwa-Zulu Natal – including our Champion National Thoroughbred Breeders’ Summerhill Stud – will be sponsoring a number of shows during the competitive year of 2015, with rosettes and prizes at each show. After sponsoring six shows in 2014, a decision has been made to expand the KZN Breeders Dressage Challenge over more shows and different venues, which will see the results become truly competitive.

It will culminate with a Trophy and prizes being awarded to the top Thoroughbred horse with the most points accumulated over the year, and possibly a trophy for the top KZN-bred winner.

The KZN Breeders are looking forward once more to a symbiotic relationship with KZN Dressage with a common love of the Thoroughbred horse. The competition was initiated to highlight the successful careers and versatility of the Thoroughbred breed in varying riding sports and disciplines, post racing, and KZN Breeders would like to thank KZN Dressage for their enthusiasm and initiation, which KZN Breeders are very glad to support.

The successful retraining of ex-racehorses competing in various equestrian disciplines has seen them consistently prove themselves in both the local and international sport horse arenas.

Dressage is considered to be the ultimate in equestrian sport, requiring great precision and discipline from both horse and rider. The competition is not limited to Dressage horses only – all disciplines are encouraged to enter their Thoroughbreds and actively participate in this dressage challenge for the year end prize.

The levels of competition which will count for points include Preliminary, Novice and Elementary levels. The Trophy will be awarded at the final show.

The winners of the overall KZN Breeders Dressage Challenge in 2014 saw Heather Cochrane with her KZN-bred ex-racehorse , Centennial by Modus Vivendi, take home the honours.
