Enchanted Kingdom, bred by Bellwood Stud in Nottingham Road, won the Gr 3 Yellowwood Handicap from Without Malice yesterday at the Turffontein Inside at odds of 35/1, ridden to victory by Chase Maujean. Backworth-bred Varlet ran fourth, just three lengths off the winner.
Enchanted Kingdom is owned by Messrs GT Peter and Joel Peter, and she is trained by Mr PA Peter.
Originally named Lafare, Enchanted Kingdom is by KZN’s Champion sire Kahal out of Aerial Dancer by Dancing Champ and a R95 000 graduate off the 2009 Emperors Palace National Two Year Old sale. She is a half-sister to two winners, including Apollo’s Dream by Kefaah, a four-time winner.
Enchanted Kingdom is now a five-time winner, she has placed five times earning over R250 000.
This family includes the likes of Soft Landing – Gr 1 Garden Province Stakes winner, Gr 3 winner Margot, mulitiple American Grade 1 winning racehorse and successful sire In Excess(IRE)- sire of Indian Charlie – and Gr 2 winner and sire Shoemaker(GB).
Bellwood Stud was established in 1970 and it is owned and managed by the Messenger family and is situated in the heart of the beautiful Midlands of KwaZulu Natal.
From a small stable of mares, Bellwood Stud won the 2002 KZN Breeding Achievement of the Year and produced many winners including Key of Destiny, the Equus Champion 3 year old and KZN Horse of the Year. In 2004 Key of Destiny won the Equus Champion Sprinter of the Year. Key Of Destiny, proved himself a versatile racehorse who won the Gr 1 Golden Horse Sprint over 1200m, as well as the Gr 1 SA Classic over 1800m and Gr 2 Gold Circle Derby over 2400m, beating Wolf Whistle.
Bellwood Stud incorporates Bellwood Cottages into it’s facilities and will see the beautiful farm hosting the KZN Breeders Awards for the second year running, this year to be held on 17 November. Their picturesque facilities include a chapel, conference centre/wedding venue and cottages.
