Rathmor and Summerhill will each be represented in the World Sports Betting Gold Cup this weekend – with Paths Of Victory and Before Noon respectively.

Paths Of Victory will be partnered by S’manga Khumalo for Gareth Van Zyl, who has trained the Noble Tunes to success – getting four wins with Paths Of Victory and seven places to date.

He has finished just a length off Marchingtogether over 2400m. Owned by Mario Ferreira, Paths Of Victory sold for R220 000 off the 2017 National Yearling Sale, out of a mare purchased specifically to be covered by Noble Tune.

His dam Victory Garden (by now Irish resident sire Solskjaer) has also produced multiple winners In Auro and Victory Trip, from the family of Spring Garland, SA export and American winner Mahubo, Imbongi, William Longsword and Victory Moon.

Before Noon (Await The Dawn) has a special story attached, and nearly ended his career after his purchase when he fractured a leg. He was given the necessary time and treatment to recover and it says much for his courage, as he has repaid his owners with a smashing record of 6 wins and 13 places.

Owned in partnership by Mr & Mrs Towell and trainer Sean Tarry, the 6yo gelding by Await The Dawn tries every time he sees a racetrack and has a chance. He will be ridden by Serino Moodley.

His sire Await The Dawn is a terrible loss to KZN Breeding and has produced the likes of Gr1 SA Derby winner, Hero’s Honour.

KZN Breeders Chairman Ted Hughes has Paybackthemoney jumping from draw 16 under Muzi Yeni, trained by Nathan Kotzen. Racing in the colours of Ruth Hughes, he was a R10 000 buy off the National 2YO Sale. He is a half brother to Gr1 winner Out Of Your League running in the same race, a shock winner of the Gr1 SA Derby this year.
