Flying The Flag Full Sister In Coronation Cup

Four-year-old top filly Magical, a full sister to Bush Hill Stud’s Flying The Flag, progressed when stepped up to 12 furlongs at the backend of 2018, landing the Gr1 QIPCO British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes at Ascot in October before pushing Enable all the way in the Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Turf at Churchill Downs, USA in November.

Magical, a 5/1 chance with Unibet, official betting partner of the Investec Derby Festival, has returned this season with easy victories in the Gr3 Alleged Stakes at Naas on April 13 and more recently the Gr2 Mooresbridge Stakes at the Curragh, both over 2000m.

Magical’s trainer Aidan O’Brien has won the Investec Coronation Cup, run over the same 12 furlongs and six yards as the Investec Derby and Investec Oaks, a record eight times.

She is a full sister not only to Flying The Flag, but multiple Gr1 winner Rhododendron.

Flying The Flag sold his first yearlings at the National Yearling Sale for up to R150 000, with the countries leading judges in horseflesh snapping them up in a subdued market.

Keep a look out for the yearlings on offer by Flying The Flag at the upcoming KZN Yearling Sale at the beginning of July.
