#kznbreds Camphoratus, returning from her Gauteng Gr1 win and St John Gray’s courageous Dawn Assault will be contesting Saturday’s Gr2 World Sports Betting 1900 at Greyville.

Dawn Assault will have leading jockey Gavin Lerena in the irons for breeder, owner and trainer St John Gray whilst Gareth Wright retains his ride on the Gr1 winning daughter of Byword, bred by Middlefield Stud.

Dawn Assault is a 5yo entire by Call To Combat, out of an Al Mufti mare Cayman Ridge. He is an 8-time winner including the Gr3 London News Stakes placed second in the Gr1 Summer Cup. He has placed 17 times, earning over R1,3-million in the process. He is a big runner in this field with solid form, Merit Rated 106 and carrying 60kgs.

St John Gray, who raced 5x Gr1 winner Dancewiththedevil, has entered Dawn Assault for the #VDJ2018.

Camphoratus is no stranger to the Greyville turf, taking the Gr3 Flamboyant at the end of December on the Greyville turf, flying down on the outside rail to take the victory by a quarter length for trainers Robbie and Shannon Hill. A R30 000 buy back at the KZN Yearling Sale, she has rewarded her owners Messrs L J Muir, S Manicom, G R Sadleir & Mr & Mrs Rob Pickering with over R1,1-million in stakes earned.

Winning very well in her last start at long odds in Gauteng, she defeated a quality field of fillies including the likes of Oh Susanna, Celtic Sea, Redberry Lane and Cascapedia to win bravely. She meets again with Fiorella and Fresnaye in this field, and will be taking on the likes of Vodacom Durban July runner up Made To Conquer, Orpheus and Doublemint.

She carries 57.5kg and is drawn 2. This will be the first attempt for Camphoratus over 1900m, but the extra will not be an issue with her pedigree behind her.

Both Camphoratus and Dawn Assault are entries for the KZN Breeders Race Day, taking place 29 June at Greyville for a combined stakes of over R2,4-million.
