Friday was certainly not unlucky for KZN. The Sharks scored a long overdue victory in Auckland. Across the seas in New York, a KZN-bred horse, Mahubo won the $75 000 Three Coins Up Stakes at Aqueduct Park, New York.

The 6YO Summerhill-bred gelding notched up his second victory at this venue, the first being in November of 2011 where he won his maiden $35 000 purse. Heavily backed as the favourite for the race, thanks to his narrow second in Florida, Mahubo plugged away, and managed to hold off the fast finishing Indy Scent and Russler Hussler to score another victory for owner Mrs Fitri Hay.

A R900 000 purchase and 2008 graduate of the Summerhill Ready-To-Run Sale, Mahubo is the half-brother to illustrious Group One winner Imbongi, another Summerhill and KZN-bred, who was the 2010 Dubai Carnival Victor Ludorum.

Mahubo’s American win takes his overall earnings to $1,054,470.

Congratulations go to Mrs Fitri Hay, as well as Summerhill Stud who are keeping KZN Breeding’s flag flying all over the world.
