Record Entries For KZN Breeders Race Day 2013

KZN Breeders Triple Million Challenge

The KZN Breeders Race Day in 2013 has been enthusiastically supported by owners and trainers nationwide, with a phenomenal 600 entries received in the first round of nominations ahead of the exciting development of six races for stakes of R200 000, each for KZN-breds over distances of 1200m to 1900m.

The next supplementary entries will take place in April for a nomination fee of R2 000 a horse.

Some of the top rated KZN-breds entered for the day include Seal, Tetelestai (both born and raised by Bush Hill Stud), recent Gr 3 placed Coffee Sheik (bred by Miss Anna Riddle), Shogunnar, Midnight Serenade (bred by Clifton Stud) and Storm Bringer.

The concept has even drawn interest beyond our national borders, with trainer Kirk Swanson from Zimbabwe entering his Joint Zimbabwean Horse Of The Year and Zimbabwean Triple Crown winner Madigan (bred by Mr Rosseau of St Helier Stud), as well as the talented King Kahal, bred by Keivan Stud.

Another exciting entry is three year old Zimbabwean prospect who currently remains unbeaten in his first three starts, (winning his debut by an incredible 12 lengths), the Bush-Hill Bred Newton Power. It has also attracted the attention of Cape trainers Glen Kotzen and Mike Bass, who has entered a Rathmor-bred half-sister to triple Gr 1 winner (including the USA), Gypsy’s Warning.

Others that catch the eye are a daughter of Carpocrates, Extra Zing, who won her debut by five lengths at the Vaal and the beautiful grey colt, Backworth-bred Luxardo, who has won and placed from each of his six starts. Gitiano, by young up-and-coming Summerhill sire Mullins Bay, has won twice and placed twice from six starts.

Showmetheway, a Summerhill-bred by Muhtafal, has won his last five starts out at both Scottsville and Turffontein and placed from eight starts.

Yellow Star’s highly consistent Miesque’s Approval gelding, Placido, owned by breeder Lee Scribante and trainer Alan Greef, has been entered. >From 11 starts, he has only been out of the money once, placing fifth. He has had four wins which include the Dahlia Plate Listed, and placed third in the Champion Juvenile Cup Gr 3.

All the horses entered qualify for a four point bonus so keep an eye on our website for updated fortnightly logs. For more information visit our Million Mile page.

We would like to thank the owners, trainers, breeders and Gold Circle, who have all embraced our KZN Breeders Race Day and look forward to the results in the coming months ahead.
