The KZN Breeders’ Million Mile will have its inaugural running at Greyville on 1st July. What used to be the KZN Breeder’s 1600 – then run for a stake of R250 000 – now sees the stake increased to a whopping R1 million.

This race is open exclusively for KZN-breds only, and will be run amongst others on the KZN Breeders Race Day. It also forms part of the newly implemented KZN Breeders’ Triple Million Challenge.

Warwick and Karin Render’s Bush Hill-bred The Mouseketeer won the KZN Breeders 1600 last year at Clairwood and went onto win the Gr 3 August Stakes and shortly thereafter, South Africa’s richest race on sand, the Gr 2 Emerald Cup.

Having had a look at the merit ratings (as of 25 May), we’ve put together a list of 33 KZN-bred horses that we anticipate may be entered this year for the big race with an even bigger stake. A few of these horses mentioned below have half-siblings going up for sale at the upcoming Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale on 5 and 6 July. If you wish to have a go at the possibility of your KZN-bred winning R3 million, you need to start by purchasing a KZN-bred yearling at the upcoming sale at Suncoast.

If you would like to find out more information about the much anticipated KZN Breeders’ Race Day to be held at Greyville on 1 July, please email Keith Russon or Linda Norval.

We have selected the following horses, beginning with the horses who have achieved the highest merit ratings:
