Congratulations to Summerhill Stud who collected the Equus Award for Breeders Champion for the eighth consecutive year, an admirable achievement indeed. Summerhill achieved earnings of R13,317,507, almost R2-million ahead of Klawervlei Stud in the Cape.

Horses that assisted Summerhill Stud with their outstanding past season include Igugu(AUS), Smanjemanje and Pierre Jourdan.

Their imported champion raised-and-grazed filly Igugu(AUS) collected the Equus Award for Champion Older Filly/Mare Four Years Old +. Igugu won both her Graded races in the last season – The Ipi Tombe Challenge Gr 2 by five lengths and Gr 1 J&B Met from Bravura. The Vodacom Durban July and J&B Met winner Igugu(AUS) is currently in quarantine in Mauritius, scheduled for an exciting racing career ahead to be overseen by Equus champion trainer Mike De Kock.

Smanjemanje won the Gr 2 Victory Moon Stakes as well as the London News Stakes Gr 3. He also followed these wins with Group places in the recent Gr 1 Vodacom Durban July, the Champions Challenge Gr 1 and Jubilee Handicap Gr 3.

Pierre Jourdan, a R60 000 Ready-To-Run Sales graduate who has earned in excess of R4.5 million, was auctioned off earlier this year for R1,6 million to dissolve a partnership. He is the winner this last season of the Gr 2 Charity Mile.

Congratulations to Mick Goss and his team at Summerhill Stud from the KZN Breeders!
