KZN’s sires are back in the news on the International front – with Visionaire’s son Outlook in a Listed race, Moonlight Cloud gets her fourth Gr 1 for broodmare sire Spectrum with King Of Kings also proving his broodmare sire abilities in the USA, A.P. Warrior – closely bred along the lines of Clifton’s A.P. Answer has an exciting unbeaten two year old and Crusade’s broodmare sire Johannesburg gets an impressive Gr 1 Argentine winner.

Visionaire’s two year old son Outlook ran a close second in the Cavonnier Juvenile Stakes (Listed) in the USA over 1200m at the Santa Rosa track, running half a length off winner Hirschy (by Papa Clem – Smart Strike). Outlook is out of mare Steal Of The Night by Lost Code (Codex) out of a Northern Jove/Never Bend mare.

Visionaire’s first South African crop are yearlings, and look every inch of their imposing sire – having good bone, strength and substance. Visionaire stands at Summerhill Stud for a fee of R25 000 + vat this season.

Spectrum’s grand-daughter Moonlight Cloud followed up with yet another Gr 1 victory, less than two weeks after her victory in the Prix De Gheest. She took home the Prix Jacques Le Marois over 1600m at Deauville on turf by a short head from Olympic Glory (Choisir), with Intello (Galileo) finishing third by one and three quarter lengths off. It is the grey mare’s fifth Gr 1 win to date. Spectrum stands at Yellow Star Stud.

King Of Kings continues his success as a broodmare sire in the USA, having a place in the West Point Restricted Handicap by a length off the winner. A previous winner of the El Prado Listed Stakes, Kharafa (by Kitalpha) third off the winner Hangover Kid – who happens to have Rakeen as a broodmare sire! The race took place at Saratoga on turf over 1800m.

King Of Kings had another place in the Hollywood Juvenile Championship Listed, with Ontology (by Tapit), running half a length off the winner Alpine Luck (Lucky J H) over 1200m. King Of Kings stands at Clifton Stud this season.

Fantastic new sire prospect – Crusade who stands at Scott Bros – recently had his results of his Equinome Speed Gene Test announced by the syndicate. He is a C:C horse, which defines him as a sprinter and horse that will produce sprinters – this backs up the amount of speed in his pedigree and his fast finish in the Gr 1 Middle Park Stakes.

A good looking young sire that will be very imposing once he matures, his sire Mr Greeley continues with much Group success overseas. Alumna, a three year old filly finished third in the Gr 3 Prix De Pysche at Deauville over 2000m by two lengths in good going. She is out of a Sadler’s Wells/Darshaan mare.

Johannesburg, the broodmare sire of Crusade, recently produced a sizzling Gr 1 winner in Argentina over 1600m of turf with Juhayna, a filly out of a Nugget Point/Crocket mare. The three year old filly set the turf alight, winning by an incredible eight lengths. Sociologa Inc (out of a Bernstein mare) finished second, while Ultimio Seuno (out of a Street Cry mare) finished third. Crusade stands his first season at Scott Bros’ Highdown Stud for a fee of R20 000 (R5 000 nom + R15 000 live foal).

A.P. Warrior, an American Sire who shares a sire and third dam Ocean’s Answer with Clifton sire A.P. Answer, had a four length victory with two year old gelding Burning Warrior in the Louisiana Juvenile Cup over 1200m. The gelding out of a Carson City/Slew O’ Gold/Nureyev mare has now had just two starts and two wins.

A.P. Warrior, a top 10 sire this season on both Florida’s general stallion list and 2-year-old list, is represented by 27 winners. His leading earner on the season is multiple graded stakes-placed Siete de Oros.

A.P. Answer’s first crop have just turned two in August – and have been enthusiastically received by trainers. A.P. Answer stamps his foals beautifully – good looking progeny with powerful hindquarters and we look forward to their imminent track performances. A.P.
