Successful Day 2 For KZN Farms at NYS

Day two proved very successful for Spring Valley, Clifton, Bush Hill Stud and Blue Sky Thoroughbreds whilst first season sire Rabada sold two lots for up to R150 000.

The top price of the day went to Spring Valley Stud acting as agent for Gary Player, selling an impressive filly Lot 237 by Trippi to Gr2 winner, Vars Vicky, for R850 000. The dam has produced 5 winners to date.

Bush Hill Stud followed with their impeccably bred Raptor Island, from the last of the Dynasty’s to come out of African Goshawk. The strapping colt sold to Suzette Viljoen for R380 000. The dam is a half-sister to Halve The Deficit, Silver Coin and Mombela, with the family including the mighty Arabian Lass and Smart Banker.

Clifton Stud enjoyed success, starting with Lot 406 – their handsome Captain Casey (Captain Of All – Caseys Dance) selling for R375 000 to a superb judge of horseflesh, Tony Rivalland. R600 000 was the final price for Laguna Verde – a beautiful son of Gimmethegreenlight who has all the rage at the Nationals this year, sold to Titanium Racing. The second dam of Lot 437 is Gr1 winner Urabamba.

Peter and Jenny Blyth’s chestnut daughter of The United States out of Esterel, a half-sister to Gr2 winner Montreal Mist, found a respectable R200 000 knocked down to MJ Odendaal.

Blue Sky Thoroughbreds, the breeding partnership of Bruce Le Roux and Tinus Gericke, saw years of shrewdly purchasing well bred yearling fillies off Nationals and racing them successfully – pay off at the Nationals when Chartreuse’s Dynasty filly sold to Suzette Viljoen for R750 000. This is the female line of Kochka, Garibondy, Youcanthurrylove and Leopard Strike.

Blue Sky Thoroughbreds averaged an impressive R350 000 for their four Lots sold. The young breeding partnership are boasting 3 wins from their 5 runners from their first crop produced – with a winners to runners percentage of 60%!!
