Peter and Jenny Blyth of Clifton Stud were very pleased over the weekend with the fantastic double on Friday night at Greyville for their young sire A.P. Answer.

What An Answer, bred by Doug Campbell’s Sugar Hill Stud took home the fourth race on turf, followed by Clifton-bred Golden Answer winning the fifth.

Interesting to point out that both winners were over 1600m – A.P. Answer has been Equinome Speed Gene tested and his results returned showing him as a “C:T”, a horse that will be inclined to produce Sprinter-Milers. A.P. Answer certainly stamps his foals, beautiful rich bay coats, short-coupled with powerful hindquarters and attractive heads.

We visited A.P. Answer last week with Martin Locke, and the stallion has let down to an imposing individual – he strutted across the lawns with a big swinging walk, carrying a much bigger testosterone-induced neck and crest this year, followed by a sleek bay coat and powerful hindquarters. He carries an unusual facial marking, with his blaze only starting halfway down the front of his handsome face. Keep a lookout for Clifton Stud’s A.P. Answer and National Sale yearlings on Channel 239 in weeks to come.

A.P. Answer looks an absolute picture, and everything a maturing stallion should be with strong characteristic features of his great sire, A.P. Indy.

What An Answer raced by a large syndicate with Messrs R Harriparsad, Bridglall, Campbell, L Harriparsad, Pillay, Govender & Govender, Regnath, Bissessur, Chetty, Chetty, Naidoo, Naidoo, Rooplal, Regnath and Rooplal, is a three year old filly out of Mogok mare Mayebobo. She has recently found better form over 1600m at Greyville with each start.

Ridden by Donovan Dillion, she won by almost two lengths from Noriki (Admire Main) and Le Chat’Damour (Tiger Ridge), jumping from a third draw. This is What An Answer’s first win, after placing five times previously. Well done to trainer and breeder Doug Campbell, as well as the winning connections.

Owner Erich Buhr’s Golden Answer followed up immediately thereafter in the fifth race, winning a super race going away by almost two lengths. Another three year old filly out of Golden Dancer by Rambo Dancer, defeated Birkins Best (Miesque’s Approval) and Ivanovich (Silvano) respectively. She won from a seventh draw for traine Corrine Bestel and ridden by Keagan De Melo.

KZN Breeder and owner Erich Buhr has had success with A.P. Answer before – his stunning colt Beckedorf in training with Dennis Drier placed fourth in the Gr1 Golden Horse Sprint, just three lengths off Guiness, and second by a neck in the Gr3 Godolphin Stakes.

Mogostar, a Mogok half-sister to Gr1 pl Beckedorf.

Clifton Stud have his Mogok half-sister entered in the upcoming Nationals [pictured right] – a classy filly oozing quality and a great attitude, inbred to the great broodmare Coup De Folie; named Mogostar, she is out of a Kahal mare Countess Kinsky. Golden Answer sold for R70 000 at the 2013 National Yearling Sale. She has raced eight times, placed four times with one win, all over 1600m.

A.P. Answer won twice in the USA and placed four times, before a knee injury curtailed a promising racing career. Impeccably bred, he is out of a top European champion racefilly Pas De Reponse by Danzig, the latter giving Peter Blyth much success being the sire of Allied Flag, which gave Peter and Jenny Blyth Durban July winner, Classic Flag.

The immediate damline of A.P. Answer carries top sires with the likes of Gr1 winning and producing Green Tune and Storm Bird, the sire of world champion Storm Cat.

Well done to Peter and Jenny Blyth and the team at Clifton Stud, as well as the winning connections. Clifton Stud have bred recent Gr3 winning Whatalady, as well as A.P. Answer’s Zimbabwean Gr3 winning daughter Print The Pounds.
