First Winner For Sire Mullins Bay

Mullins Bay, Summerhill Stud

Croke Park, bred by Somerset Stud, produced the first win for Mullins Bay(GB), standing at Summerhill Stud. This is Mullins Bay’s first crop to race. Croke Park sold for just R20 000 at the 2011 KZN Yearling Sale, and has earned almost R50 000 in his first start/win.

It was the two-year old colt’s debut run and he won comfortably by 2.25 lengths from Sammy Silver at Turffontein’s inside track on Sunday 3 June. He is trained by Tyrone Zackey. The colt was drawn tenth, winning comfortably over 1600m under jockey Brandon Lerena.

The dam Streisand (by Gallic League) won twice and placed 3 times from 10 starts. She has now produced three winners from four runners. She is a full-sister to Gallic Son, a ten-time winner including Mauritius. Croke Park is a half-brother to three year old Choir Girl (by Requiem) a winner of her last two races from five starts.

Mullins Bay, by Machiavellian out of Bella Colora by Bellypha, has had just 7 runners to date with one winner and two places coming from Copper Bay.

Mullins Bay was the best racing son of sire of sires Machiavellian in the world in 2006, and earned a Timeform Rating of 121. A 525.000 guineas yearling, he raced in the UK and UAE, achieving 3 wins over distances of 1800-2000m from 3 to 4 years old. He had 14 starts and took home 12 cheques, including a Gr 3 win at 3 years old, and placing in Group and Listed races seven times.

He is a half-brother to three Bold Black Type horses, Alkaadhem, Stage Craft and Hyabella. Stage Craft (by Sadler’s Wells) was the highest weighted older Horse in Europe and is now a sire. Another two sires, both full-brothers by Sadler’s Wells can be found under Mullins Bay’s second dam – that being Kayf Tara and Opera House.

Machiavellian is not only the sire of Kahal who is consistently within the Top 5 stallions on the log in this country who also resides at Summerhill, Machiavellian has also produced the remarkable Street Cry (sire of the famous Zenyatta), and Medicean – the sire of Bankable who stood a season at Summerhill before his untimely death earlier this year.
