Shongweni Horses In Training Sale Results

The Michael Holmes Bloodstock Shongweni Horses In Training Sale took place in the sweltering Durban heat at the beautiful grounds of Durban Shongweni Club, and saw a strong turnout of buyers from across the country.

The top priced KZN-bred horse and filly went to Spring Valley Stud’s Varsonic as Lot 76, a two year old filly by Var out of Sonic Enquiry by Qui Danzig and a descendant of Spring Valley’s brilliant foundation broodmare, Trade Enquiry. She sold for R120 000 to Jeff Freedman, and is a half-sister to Storm Bird Stakes Placed King’s Soldier.

The top priced KZN-bred male went to Lot 136 Silva Hawk, a Summerhill-bred son of Silvano out of Rosella by Jallad. He sold for R100 000 to Kirk Swanson. The five year old bay gelding looked a picture from the yard of Sean Tarry, and to date has had 19 runs, 3 wins and 7 places – earning close to R300 000 in stakes.

The overall top price of the sale went to Lot 54 Shimmering Brook, purchased by prominent KZN owner Alesh Naidoo for R280 000. The Silvano gelding out of Argosy mare Brilliant Brook has won twice from only four starts and earned almost R110 000.

The total proceeds for 103 Lots sold was R3,230 000, with 28 lots withdrawn and 15 not sold. The average amounted to R31 359.22.
