Group 1-winning mare Bounding was one of three broodmares to change hands for a seven figure sale price at Wednesday’s first session of the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale on the Gold Coast.

One of Rathmor Stud’s resident broodmares is African Love, is a half-sister to the dam of Bounding named Believe ‘n Succeed. An exciting broodmare acquistion, African Love (AUS) has a Noble Tune weanling at foot this year, whilst her Captain Al two year old colt sold for R1,4million at the CTS Ready To Run Sale. She has a yearling by Var.

A perfect pedigree match to that of Noble Tune, African Love is a 2-time winner who placed nine times, by Fantastic Light out of a Gone West/Storm Cat mare November Snow.

Bounding was knocked down to US agent John Moynihan on behalf of Barbara Banke’s Stonestreet Farm for $1.9 million.
“I knew she was going to be expensive,” Moynihan told Magic Millions. “You never know that they are going to go right to that number but I think she is a gorgeous mare with a gorgeous pedigree.

“It’s rare to see a mare like that come up and I think moving forward she is the kind of mare that can produce the right kind of colt that if he had real ability, could be a stallion and worth a lot of money.”

Bounding is the winner of eight of her 19 starts with her career highlight coming when under the care of Kiwi trainer Ken Kelso, winning the Gr1 Railway Stakes at Ellerslie.

The daughter of Lonhro was named champion sprinter in New Zealand and champion three-year-old filly in 2013/14.
Bounding was transferred to the stables of Peter and Paul Snowden at the start of this season and the mare claimed the Gr3 Heath Stakes at Caulfield, her sixth black-type success.

Bounding is out of Mark Kavanagh’s former smart filly Believe‘n’succeed, Herself a Gr3 winner of the Blue Diamond Prelude in 2008.

Believe‘n’succeed is a sister to Godolphin’s duel stakes winner Kuroshio and South Australian Listed winner Agulhas, as well as South African raced African Love.

Moynihan said he believes Bounding has run her last race and will head to the breeding barn later this year.
“I think we will breed her, she has done enough,” he said. “Peter trains for us so I will talk to him about that. I don’t think there is much more for her to do.”
