Yellow Star Stud have had several winners recently and over the weekend saw Gr 3 success at both Kenilworth and Fairview racecourses.

Flash Drive, a two year old colt out of La Sirenne by Captain Al, is the second Group 3 winner for his young sire Jay Peg, taking home the R150 000 Gr 3 Cape Of Good Hope Nursery run over 1200m at Kenilworth on Saturday.

Trained by Justin Snaith, he was ridden by Karis Teetan. Always up with the action in a small field, Flash Drive changed gears at the 300m and powered away to win at 28 to 10 by 1,50 lengths in a time of 72,50 secs.

Tiger Island ran on strongly for second, to deny Sunday Sun. Flash Drive is the first foal for dam La Sirenne by Captain Al – she was sold in foal to A.P. Answer, to Peter and Jenny Blyth of Clifton Stud where A.P. Answer stands.

This was Flash Drive’s second win from three starts and he took his earnings to R130 000. He sold for R275 000 on the Cape Premier Yearling Sale Book 1.

Placido, by Miesque’s Approval out of Lady Gray by Badger Land, placed third on Sunday to True Master by just over a length in the East Cape Derby Gr 3 over 2400m. Ridden by Aldo Domeyer and trained by Alan Greef, he ran just a neck off the second horse Nearctic Dancer.

Owned by Mr & Mrs A C Greeff and Messrs C G & L F Scribante, Placido has been the model of consistency with four wins including the Guineas Plate and 10 places – including the Champion Juvenile Cup Gr 3, and two Listed races including the Dahlia Plate. An impressive record from 17 starts!

An R85 000 graduate of the 2011 KZN Yearling Sale, Placido descends from the dam-line of Stakes winners Firetread, Electro Step and Empress Crown. He has now earned over R250 000 in stakes won.

Part-owner Lee Scribante of Piemonte Stud in Summerveld, went onto buy Placido’s half-sister by Silvano, Lady Silvia, from the 2012 Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale for R200 000. Both horses are bred by Yellow Star Stud out of Badger Land mare, Lady Gray.

Congratulations to Yellow Star Stud on a great weekends racing!
