The Vodacom Durban July Day Theme has been announced, and this year it is Posh? Oh My Gosh! The biggest race day in South Africa, it also comes with the recent announcement of a Stakes increase to R3,5 million. Won last year by Pomodoro (by KZN-bred champion sire Jet Master) with Summerhill’s Smanjemanje (by Kahal) finishing second within a nose, KZN is the place to be for racing over the winter season.
Exciting news for the Thoroughbred Breeders Association and KZN Breeders will be the inaugural running of a Juvenile race for R1-million on Vodacom Durban July day, for all horses that passed through the sale ring at the 2012 Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale.
The KZN Breeders Race Day will also be hosting our Million Mile on 30 June 2013 at Greyville, about a week before the Vodacom Durban July with eight races exclusively for KZN-breds – with a total Stake for the day of R2,4 million – a first for the KZN Breeders, that saw almost 800 horses nominated for seven of the races.
Nominations for the Million Mile (for 3 & 4 year olds with suitable Merit ratings) over will open closer to the time.
The seven races on the KZN Breeders Race Day, exclusively for horses registered with the KZN Breeders Premium Scheme, will consist of races over 1200m for two year olds, as well as six races over distances of 1200m, 1600m and 1900m for male and female horses, three years old and up – each for a massive stake of R200 000.
The lead-up to the KZN Breeders Race Day and Vodacom Durban July include a KZN Breeders Golf Day, held at Royal Durban Country Club, and Bowls Day (Durban Bowling Club) on 4 June, and will see our annual KZN Yearling Sale taking place 4-5 July 2013.
Not only is it an exciting time for racing, but a number of Stallion Days will be lined up on the various stud farms in the Midlands following the big race days – including one for our new stallion acquistion, the British Gr 1 Middle Park Stakes winner Crusade(USA) at the Scott Bros beautiful Highdown Stud in Nottingham Road.
