Toreador continues great form and with just three days into September, he has had two winners and three places with two talented colts – Rikitikitana and Thrust at Scottsville and the Vaal respectively.

Rikitikitana had his first win for the Sean Tarry yard at Scottsville under Anthony Delpech, by a flying seven lengths over 1600m.

Owned by Dr K G Bakos & Mr G M Bakos & Mr Clyde Basel, the three year old colt is Merit Rated at 90, placing second in his first start and finishing in fourth behind Cutting Edge in the KZN Yearling Sale Million and ran six lengths off Rabada in the Gr1 Premiers Champion Stakes. Unsold at the 2014 Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale, he has earned R115 000 to date.

Thrust has certainly propelled himself into the limelight, with just three starts and placing on debut, he collected his second win yesterday at the Vaal over 1000m from Gr1 performer Just Africa by almost three lengths.

The colt is a Book 1 graduate off the 2013 Cape Premier Yearling Sale where he sold for R300 000 and in three starts, he has already earned over a third of it back. Trained by Paul Matchett the four year old gelding is owned by Messrs Tony Moodley, J Koumides, G Nichas, J Shill, M Trakman & J R van der Linden. Another Toreador, Tzitzikama Fire finished in third position and he is looking for a win soon after placing three times.

Toreador’s other prominent runners include the recent Gr1 placed Prospect Strike and 6-time winning Lazer Star. His second KZN crop of foals are due this season. One of the best value for money sires in South Africa, Toreador stands for a fee of R15 000.
