Hector Lawrence is a life member of Gold Circle, and during the 1960’s was an owner, trainer and breeder. Hector owned Devon Stud in Mooi River later selling it on to be renamed Regent Stud. He then built on the adjourning farm selling to Kevin van Laun who renamed it Camargue Stud.

Hector raced predominately in Kwazulu-Natal with contemporaries of the time, Trevor and Joyce Tatham and Ray Ellis. Hector engaged David Payne as his main stable jockey and had a very close relationship to the then ‘young’ Michael Roberts.

He was a vendor at the National Yearling Sales and remembers how he leased Ronnie Napier his first horse, Apollo.

Great successes he enjoyed were in particular with Centre Court, Thunderball and Cherry Top all winners in Hector’s black and gold silks.

Hector celebrates his 100th birthday on Wednesday 11 September 2013 at his home in Howick.

  1. Dear Sirs,
I wonder if you have any news of Bobby and Felicity Jameson who owned Regent Stud in the seventies. I worked for Bobby at his company, Film Fun in Jburg in the early seventies and spent some time on Regent Stud cataloging all the horses. Including Regent Street. I remember they had a manager, from the UK?, called Alan.

Any idea what happened to them. I was back in South Africa recently and tried to find a contact for Bobby and Felicity, but couldn’t find any. Then on my last day, I came across the posting about mr Lawrence having sold the farm to Bobby. Any news would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards, Sheila McCubbin, from Scotland.

    1. Hi Sheila,
I have sent your mail onto some of our older breeders to find out if they know of anything and can assist you. I will let you know if I hear of anything further.
      Thank you!

    2. Hi Sheila I have just seen your post about looking up Bobby and myself in 2018, say Bobby passed away more than 10 years ago I still live in our apartment on Zimbali golf estate where Bobby built a number of developments here
