Day one of the 2012 Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale started off with a bang, with many breeders reporting that they had the most interest shown in their horses in many years.

107 lots were sold on the first day compared to 102 last year, six of those vendor buy-backs.

The aggregate increased significantly this year, totally R6 520 000 compared to last year’s R4 965 000, which meant the average for a yearling sold this year was R60 935, up from R48 676 last year, a significant increase indeed.

The top-priced KZN-bred yearling was Lot 34 from Yellow Star Stud, Lady Silvia (Silvano – Lady Gray by Badger Land) herself a half-sister to 2-time winning Placido (by Miesque’s Approval), himself an R85 000 graduate of the 2011 KZN Yearling Sale last year. Lady Silvia achieved R200 000 and was released by Lee Scribante.
