KZN Mare Sale Results

Lot 70 Lanterns Of Gold, a half-sister to Dancer’s Daughter, topped the sale at R330 000 to Welcome Home Farming.

The TBA’s KZN Mare, Weanling, Horses In Training and Yearling Sale took place at Aldora Stud on 6 July and incorporated the dispersal of Mr Des Scott’s broodmares, two of whom topped the sale.

Welcome Home Farming purchased Lanterns Of Gold(GB), a beautifully bred mare sold as Lot 70 for R330 000 which was highest priced mare on the sale. The dam of four-time winning Light The Way (by Miesque’s Approval) is by Fantastic Light, out of a Damister/Nureyev mare.

More predominantly, she is a half-sister to the grey Vodacom Durban July winner Dancer’s Daughter, who famously dead-heated with Pocket Power. Lanterns Of Gold was a winner in Britain and placed from just five starts. She is currently not in foal.

The second highest came from another from the DI Scott Dispersal, the Mogok mare Cup Of Rubies – another that is a half-sister to a Vodacom Durban July winner in Hunting Tower. Cup Of Rubies (out of Stirrup Cup by Royal Chalice), is in foal to Gr1 Middle Park Stakes winner Crusade, sold for R300 000 to Highlands Farm Stud.

The Fillies For Stud on offer was topped by Lot 90 for R70 000, a lovely Var mare out of Aluvial by Captain Al. She was sold to Philip Kahan from Far End Stables acting as Agent.

The yearlings on offer qualified for the KZN Yearling Sale Million if the boxes were ticked, and the top seller was a beautifully topped Fort Wood filly, out of Announce mare Falana on offer from Middlefield Stud.

She was purchased for R120 000 by St John Gray, who stands Announce at Hadlow Stud. The filly named Freely Forever shares a damline with sires’ Lords and Song Of Songs.

The weanlings on offer saw a lovely Kahal filly from Burwell Stud knocked down for R170 000 to Dan De Wet of Heritage Stud [pictured left]. A well grown filly with a super pedigree, out of British mare Acquavella by Danehill Dancer/Sadlers Wells she certainly caught the eye.

Dan De Wet, the breeder of Pocket Power recently sold Zandvliet and purchased a few mares off the sale – interestingly two of them are in foal to KZN’s exciting young stallion at Rathmor, Noble Tune, whose first foals will arrive in August this year.
