Summerhill-bred Classic Illusion waltzed home with another Gr 3 victory under her belt – the Flamboyant Stakes at Greyville on Friday night.

The chestnut daughter of KZN’s Champion sire Kahal has now had five wins – her previous win being the Gr 3 Yellowwood Handicap in October at Turffontein over 1800m, where she defeated the likes of Formation, Go Indigo and Rhythmic Roxy. Classic Illusion is out of Class Will Sell by Jallad – a full-sister to Bold Black Type Abbey’s Lad.

Owned by Mrs J P Gardner and Messrs M C Berzack, B G Gardner, K E Michael and G P Sadie, Classic Illusion was a R200 000 National Yearling Sales graduate of 2010. She has now earned almost R500 000.

Her half-sister by Mullins Bay – Golden Dynasty – owned by Brian Burnard, is a winner who has also placed 13 times.

David Thiselton reports that “veteran Turffontein-based trainer Gary Alexander identified Friday night’s Grade 3 Flamboyant Stakes at Greyville as the perfect race for Classic Illusion. She duly obliged winning comfortably from favourite Murmering Sky and Orange Blossom. The Summerhill-bred five-year-old was the best weighted horse in the conditions event and had travelled down well from Johannesburg.

“Classic Illusion enjoyed the fast conditions on Friday night and Gary’s brother and assistant-trainer Dean praised S’Manga Khumalo for a fine ride. The National Jockey’s log leader had her handy before going for home early in the straight and beating the Dennis Drier-trained Murmering Sky by two lengths.”
