KZN Breeders Series – First Log For 2YO’s
Kom Naidoo’s Answeringgenesis tops the first log of 198 Two Year Olds competing for spaces in two races each for a stake of R200 000 over 1200m; one for KZN-bred colts and the other for KZN-bred fillies on the Polytrack at Greyville.
The two year old Clifton Stud-bred colt by A.P. Answer out of Sauna’s Rose by Tamburlaine has now placed second from both of his starts, his debut finishing just a quarter of a length off Rob’s Jewel over 800m at Scottsville and again at Greyville behind Mike De Kock’s Argentine Megnaas(ARG). The colt is owned by Mr KG Naidoo.
The KZN Breeders Series takes place on our KZN Breeders Race Day scheduled for 26 June 2016, just a week before the Vodacom Durban July. A day exclusively for horses registered with the KZN Breeders Premium Scheme, the highlight of the day is the KZN Breeders Million Mile run on turf for horses three years old and up, with appropriate Merit Ratings. Recent previous winners include No Worries and Bezanova, whilst Gr1 Gold Cup winner Wild One finished a close second.
The races will all be run over Greyville’s Polytrack, barring the Million Mile (and excluded from this pre-entry process) which will be run on the turf.
The KZN Breeders Race Day will see stakes being won for a total of R2,600 000 exclusively for KZN-breds, making it one of the biggest race days on Gold Circle’s calendar.
Our KZN Breeders Series has been enthusiastically received and supported by owners and trainers of “KZN-bred” horses over the last couple of years – and has seen us receive an incredible record of 913 entries this year, for the day (for all ages).
The KZN Breeders Series of eight R200 000 races was introduced to reward our owners and trainers who support our local breeders with the purchase of “KZN-bred” horses, by offering an opportunity to win a substantial stake on the day – with the first four horses past the post also taking home vouchers towards the purchase of a KZN-bred Thoroughbred at the KZN Yearling Sale, that follows the week after.
Supplementary Entries will open again in April, however this will incur an entry fee of R2 280 (incl Vat). The entry and supplementary fees have remained the same for the last four years.
The eight supporting races will be two races each over 1200m, 1600m and 2000m, one each for fillies and mares and colts and geldings respectively for three years old and up, and two juvenile races each for colts and fillies over 1200m.
The races will be open to all horses country-wide whose credentials meet the criteria of “KZN-bred” as prescribed by the rules of the KZN Breeders Premium Scheme.
The breeder must be registered and in turn, the breeder must have registered the horse with the Scheme to be considered for entry. To qualify for the races, points will be awarded in the months leading up to the racemeeting, from 1 January 2016 to time of Final Acceptance.
All races run throughout South Africa qualify for point-scoring purposes. Horses registered at first entry will receive a 4-point bonus but horses supplemented in April will not qualify for the bonus.
Points for Maiden races will be awarded on a 4, 3, 2 basis for first, second and third. All other races, including Grade 1’s, will have points awarded from first to fifth on 8, 6, 4, 3, 1 basis.
Points will be awarded regardless of the distance of the races and it will be up to the connections of the horses as to which races they nominate for.
The intention is to publish a points log on a fortnightly basis, with the Two Year Old Log published separately.
