110 KZN-breds will be represented at the National Yearling Sale this year, including the half-siblings to two Gr1 winners – Wild One and Talktothestars, consigned by Scott Bros.
Amongst the yearlings on offer from the various breeders in KZN, there are yearlings by Duke Of Marmalade (Lot 215 is out of a Tapit mare from Piemonte Stud), Irish Flame, Await The Dawn, Byword, Oratorio, Crusade, Eightfold Path (half-brother to Talktothestars), the first offerings by Noble Tune, Captain Al, Master Of My Fate, Visionaire, Toreador, Dynasty, Gimmithegreenlight (half-sister to 4-time winner from Roski, Miss Minver), What A Winter (an outstanding colt from St Helier Stud as Lot 175), Master Of My Fate (Spring Valley have Lot 31 out of 10-time and Gr2 winner, Magic Smoke), Fort Wood and Silvano.
KZN’s young sires are off the mark, including Crusade with three winners and numerous places – the Gr1 winning son of Mr Greeley is the second leading freshman sire on the log.
Eightfold Path has had a number of close places, as has Irish Flame – which is very positive this early in the year. Await The Dawn secured his first winner last week; keep an eye on his daughter Shadow Queen as Lot 5 – a half-sister to 10-time winner, Pisces Star.
Crusade in particular has a strong crop on offer this year – including siblings to Gr1 winner Wild One, Secretariat Stakes winner Matador Man, Gr3 placed Celestina and Gr3 placed Angel’s Power.
The highly anticipated progeny of Noble Tune will be top of the list for many buyers. With his outstanding looks, quality and pedigree, the son of Unbridled’s Song and half-brother to Honor Code has covered exceptional books of mares and amongst the yearlings on offer is a colt out of Gr2 winner Hidden Beauty, as well as Paths Of Victory as Lot 243 – the dam a half-sister to Spring Garland, Mahubo and Imbongi.
Noble Tune’s pedigree has been on fire over the past few years with his sire producing Arrogate and Liam’s Map amongst many others (and setting records at sales with his daughters), whilst the damline of Serena’s Song is in demand from the leading farms across the world – including Coolmore and Lane’s End.
KZN-breds can be identified by hip stickers during the sale and posters on their stable doors. ‘KZN-breds’ registered with the KZN Breeders Premium Scheme QUALIFY for:
– The KZN Breeders Million Mile, a race for horses three years old and up run on the KZN Breeders Race Day.
– ‘KZN-breds’ also qualify for seven increased Stakes races, known as the KZN Breeders Series for R200 000 each, to be run on the annual KZN Breeders Race Day.
– “Level The Playing Fields” R1-million Series on turf
– Two of the KZN Breeders Series races are for ‘KZN-bred’ Juvenile colts and fillies.
– The ‘KZN-bred’ that wins the KZN Yearling Sale Million run on Vodacom
Durban July day will be rewarded with a value added bonus of R200 000.
