Irwin continued, “The filly was bought to race a few more times in South Africa, with the Gauteng Fillies Guineas first and probably the Gr1 Empress Club on April 15 next. The Gr1 SA Fillies Classic is possible, but I think she is a miler and will have to show us she wants to run further. We plan to send her to Europe by way of Mauritius. We will decide in the fall if we want to give her to Mike de Kock to go to Dubai, or leave her in France to be trained by Andre Fabre.”
Modus Vivendi Arrives At Hadlow Stud Cathy Martin has advised that Modus Vivendi returned to KZN on Saturday from the Cape on behalf of St John Gray to their Hadlow Stud. Modus Vivendi is owned by Harold Muller. Cathy now has two new stallion additions for the season from the Cape, the other being Announce….
The Scott Bros’ had great weekend with Matador Man winning the Secretariat Stakes Listed at Turffontein on Saturday, whilst their gelding by The Sheik – Road To Dubai – won the Borrowdale Cup Sprint Listed over 1200m. It was a KZN-bred dominated race, with the first four crossing the line all produced locally.
Two KZN-breds impressed outside of South Africa’s borders – the first being Traffic Guard’s son Free Wheeler who won the Ngong Kenya Derby, whilst Curved Ball’s Zimbabwean champ Knuckleball, won yesterdays Zimbabwe Derby Listed.
KZN stallions are leading the way for the first season sires in South Africa so far this season in AEPR and Winners to Runners percentages, and the stats make for interesting reading (from www.nhra.co.za as of 15 November).
