Cathy Martin New KZN Breeders Club Chairlady

The KZN Breeders Club Annual General Meeting took place today at the Nottingham Road Hotel and saw Cathy Martin of Hadlow Stud, voted in as Chairlady for the next term of two years.

Ted Hughes – the former Chairman now steps down to the position of Vice-Chairman as per the constitution. The current Directors re-elected today for the Board were Mike McHardy (Macrath/Rathmor), Warwick Render (Bush Hill Stud), Peter Blyth (Clifton Stud) and Bruce Le Roux (Spring Valley Stud) and Ted Hughes. Koos De Klerk of Yellow Star Stud had tendered his resignation from the Board recently.

Cathy Martin has a strong legal background specialising in labour law, and her breeding operation in partnership with husband Jonathan Martin stands in Mooi River.

The farm encompasses St John Gray’s Graystone Stud and the Nicholas’ Hallmark Thoroughbreds – their brilliant broodmare First Arrival (the dam of In The Fast Lane, Pack Leader, Dubai winner Light The Lights and Wendy Whiteheads smart Keep On Dancing amongst others) is laid to rest at Hadlow after passing away last year.

Resident stallions on the farm include The Apache and Bezrin amongst others, as well as a smart colt by Vercingetorix out of First Arrival.

Cathy has enjoyed tremendous success breeding and raising several of St John’s many champions – both past and present and has Gr1 winner Ronnie’s Candy back at stud as well as the family of Dancewiththedevil.

Amongst the yearlings headed to Nationals from Hadlow Stud include the first foal, a Pomodoro colt out of a full sister to African Night Sky; a Rafeef colt out of Colchium (the dam of Smart Colleen and Troop The Colour) and a Canford Cliffs colt from the immediate family of the sensational Kommetdieding.

Thank you to Ted Hughes for his all of his work and effort as Chairman of the KZN Breeders Club.
