Entries have opened for the KZN Breeders Series of eight races at a stake of R200 000 each, held on KZN Breeders Race Day taking place on Saturday 29 June 2019, and last year saw 700 horses entered for the day.
“With breeders nationally feeling the effects of a subdued economic climate and taking major knocks at sales country wide with sales averaging below what it costs to produce a Thoroughbred to sales age, a Breeders Premium Scheme is greatly appreciated to assist in the running costs of a Thoroughbred breeding operation.”
In an exciting build up to the final of the KZN Jockey’s & Trainers Challenge, it was Garth Puller in the end who won the R30 000 Sales Voucher and jockey Lyle Hewitson who took the Jockey leg of the competition.

The four-year-old, that features in the top 20 on the latest July Log and could well be included in the final big race field, is one of 14 KwaZulu-Natal-bred entries for the Million Mile event that heads the annual KZN Breeders meeting that includes seven other non-black type races that each carry a stake of R200 000 and cater for horses that qualify over distance from 1 200m to 1 900m.
