The nominees for the KZN Breeders Awards to be held on 26 November 2016 have been announced, with our Equus National Champion Breeders Summerhill Stud dominating the various categories with 14 nominations, amongst them the likes of Rabada, No Worries, Heaps Of Fun, Intergalactic, Witchcraft and Arch Rival.
Emmaus, a juvenile colt by Invincible Spirit impressed on debut, out of a three-part sister to Bush Hill Stud’s exciting young sire Flying The Flag.
Lane’s End, who are standing Noble Tune’s dual Gr1 winning half brother Honor Code at stud for his first season, have purchased Lot 538 from Denali Stud at the September Keeneland Yearling Sale. The colt is by Speightstown out of a three part-sister to Noble Tune named Night And Day – she recently produced Gr2 With Anticipation winner, Made You Look (by More Than Ready), her first foal to race from two produced.
Des Scott, a partner in Scott Bros that has been breeding champions for almost 50 years in South Africa, has bred a Gr2 winner in the UK named Rivet, a son of Fastnet Rock. Rivet is out of Galileo mare, Starship. The Scott Bros are no strangers to breeding Group winners overseas and Des’ brother…
Exciting news emerged yesterday as Galileo and Fastnet Rock each produced Gr1 winners yesterday in the UK, including a Gr1 place for Flying The Flag’s full sister, Rhododendrum. Galileo is the sire Bush Hill Stud’s Flying The Flag whilst Fastnet Rock is the sire of Curved Ball.
Peter and Jenny Blyth’s Clifton Stud and their sire AP Answer took home several awards for Leading Breeder, Leading Breeder on A.E.I with 8 or more runners and Champion Sire for their resident son of AP Indy, AP Answer – as well as Spey Bridge Champion Three Year Old Filly, Duffi’s Call at the recent Zimbabwe Racing and Breeding Awards.

Miesque’s Approval’s four year old son Angel’s Power, finished second in the Gr3 Spring Spree Stakes on Saturday at Turffontein, just over a length off from Kangeroo Jack. Angel’s Power, previously trained by Brian Wiid and had a name change after his first start (formerly Corpus Christi), is now in training with Mike Azzie and owned by Dr RJP Maponya and Mr EG Bouwer.
