A beautifully-bred Crusade colt sold for R700 000 at the recent CTS Ready To Run Sale in Durbanville, consigned by Beaumont Stud and purchased by Mayfair Speculators.

Consigned as Lot 50, the colt named Wheels Are Up is out of Gr3 winner Aquataine, herself a three parts sister to Gr1 winner Captain America. She is a daughter of Requista by Fortwood, from the damline of Cruise Collection, Captainofmysoul and Dacha.

The first crop of Gr1 Middle Park Stakes winner Crusade are now two years old and the sprinting son of Mr Greeley out of La Traviata by Johannesburg, recently saw his Galileo half-sister Seventh Heaven win her second Gr1 in Ireland, the Irish Oaks.

Crusade’s yearlings and two year olds have been very well received at sales in 2016, averaging a very impressive R160 000 for each of the 18 yearlings sold at the National Yearling Sale in April. Crusade has stamped his progeny powerfully and he has been Equinome tested as a C:C, likely to produce sprinters.

From the dam La Traviata’s first three progeny to date, she has produced Black Type from all three – her first foal being Gr1 winner Crusade, second foal Gr2 placed Cristoforo Columbo (by Henrythenavigator) and thirdly dual Gr1 winner Seventh Heaven. La Traviata (by Johannesburg) has been sent back twice more to Galileo to be covered in years following.

The black stallion stands for a fee of R20 000 at Scott Bros.
