A KZN-bred colt who has drawn world-wide attention since his birth, and the only one-of-a-kind Thoroughbred in the country, Gran Blanco (meaning Great White) is being offered at the Emperor’s Palace National Yearling Sale beginning on 26 April.

He will no doubt be a star attraction for his potential owner at the racetrack.

Bred and consigned by Rathmor Stud in Nottingham Road, KZN, the unusual white colt is Lot 74 (click to view catalogue page).

Gran Blanco carries a strong Bold Black Type pedigree to match his outstanding conformation. Besides his very rare colour and markings – white with chestnut ears, Gran Blanco is a big, well-grown quality colt with a good length of rein who stands over ground.

A correct horse that scored 8.5 for his yearling inspection, he has good bone and takes after his champion sire Kahal(GB) in looks.

Out of mare Perakeen by Rakeen, his dam is a 5-time winner and she placed twice in the Gr 3 Yellowwood Handicap Stakes, as well as two Listed races of distances between 1300 – 1600m.

Rakeen of course is the sire of South Africa’s recent champion stallion Jet Master, who carried the title for six years prior to his untimely death.

The first four dams in this pedigree are all Group placed mares in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Second dam Perfick(NZ) is a 6-time winner who placed in the Gr 2 Concor Technicrete Spring Handicap and two Listed races. She has produced three winners who have achieved 12 wins between them.

Third dam Royal Acclaim (AUS) placed third in the Gr 1 South Australian Oaks and she has produced four winners, all of which have achieved Black Type.

Fourth dam is Sweet Habit(AUS), who placed second in two Australian Group 1’s, and producing seven winners including Gr 3 placed Fair Habit. This is the family of Gr 1 Vodacom Durban July winner (producing winners at stud) Grey’s Inn(USA).

Gran Blanco’s dam Perakeen is in foal once again to Kahal this season.

Gran Blanco, registered with the KZN Breeders Premium Scheme, will be available for viewing at Stable G47.
