Rathmor Stud Secure Fantastic Stallion Prospect: Noble Tune(USA)
Noble Tune

Rathmor Stud have purchased an exciting stallion prospect for the 2014 breeding season. Noble Tune(USA), impeccably-bred with a top-class race record to boot, will be the first son of Unbridled’s Song to stand in South Africa.

He is expected to arrive in June ahead of the breeding season. From seven starts, all over turf, Noble Tune won four races – kicking off with a winning debut and going onto win the Gr3 Pilgrim Stakes at two years of age, and finishing a close second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Gr1. At age three he continued top form to take home the Gr2 American Turf Stakes.

His half-brother Honor Code (by A.P. Indy) won the 2013 Remsen Stakes Gr3 which placed him in strong contention for the Gr1 Kentucky Derby – however an injury prevented him being entered.

Noble Tune and Honor Code are the only runners produced by Stakes winner Serena’s Cat, a half-sister to freshman sire Vocalised, a two-time Gr3 winner who stands in Ireland. Serena’s Cat is a granddaughter of 1995 champion 3-year-old filly Serena’s Song, dam of Gr1 winner Sophisticat and graded stakes winners Schramsberg, Grand Reward, and Harlington, and stakes winner Serena’s Tune.

Whilst introducing a fantastic and unique sire-line to South Africa, his dam-line will suit the pedigrees of our local mares. His broodmare sire is former Champion sire Storm Cat, while Serena’s Tune is by Mr Prospector with Serena’s Song (out of a Northfields mare) being by Rahy – a half-brother to Rakeen – himself the sire of Jet Master and a top broodmare sire who stood in KZN for a time.

Noble Tune will stand at Rathmor Stud for a service fee of R25 000. He joins Australian sire, Gr 1 Summer Cup winner Strategic News, who has his first crop of juveniles on the ground and we should see them on the racetracks very soon.

Rathmor Stud have bred the likes of South African and American Gr1 winning Gypsy’s Warning, as well as Malteme, Surabi and Wendywood.

More recently Rathmor have had some exciting juveniles hitting the tracks – with recent debut winners Harry Lime (by Var) and Split The Breeze (first winner for sire Brave Tin Soldier) placing themselves on the list of young horses to watch for the future.

Congratulations to Rathmor Stud on the acquisiton of a fantastic stallion prospect for KZN Breeding.
