Clifton Stud and A.P. Answer achieved five winners on Sunday between them, at Scottsville and at Borrowdale – three for A.P. Answer as a stallion and three for Peter and Jenny Blyth’s Clifton Stud.

Scottsville began with Chartwell bred by Miss CJ Rymill, winning at Scottsville over 1400m by three quarters of a length for trainer and part owner Duncan Howells. The three year old filly is out of Miss Hoity Toity by Copperbelt, and this is her second win to date and she has placed twice previously.

The next race saw Clifton-bred Warwickadale, a Labeeb gelding trained by Corinne Bestel and ridden by Chris Taylor, swoop to victory by a head. The eight year old gelding is out of Divine Heights by Divine Force, owned by syndicate Mesdames R L Giffen, C M Bestel, G M M Buchanan, J M Paterson and Messrs E W Buhr, T P M Blyth, Mr and Mrs G R Joubert. This is the fifth win for Warwickadale, who has also placed 16 times. Distant Echo, an A.P. Answer half-sister to Warwickadale sold for R140 000 at the 2014 National Yearling Sale.

Borrowdale’s Sunday race meeting saw the day open with a win by Peter Du Toit-bred A P Ikhaja, a two year old filly out of Lower House(USA) by Deputy Minister. Trained by Corne Spies, the filly streaked to a phenomenal seven length victory over 800m. This is just her second start, she placed third on debut over 800m at Turffontein by just over two lengths, at odds of 40/1. Unsold at the 2014 National Yearling Sale, she certainly looks like a horse to keep note of.

Race five of the day saw Print The Pounds [pictured right], a Clifton-bred out of Almighty Dollar by Divine Force, win by two and half lengths over 1700m. Owned by the Sunmark Racing Syndicate (Nom: Mr R E Davenport), this three year old filly is living up to her name – having won twice and placed five times from just seven starts. This win for her is the second in a row – over distances of 1600m – 1700m. She sold for just R25 000 at the National Two Year Old sale in 2013.

The last to report came in the next race – the Zimbabwe Challenge over 1400m where seven year old West Man gelding Super Trouper won his ninth race by a nose from Thriller In Manilla. Bred by Clifton Stud, Super Trouper is out of Queen Of Dance by Rambo Dancer, owned by Messrs P C Rugg, G M Littleford and S H Murray. A horse that has had a career across a number of racetracks, he ran just four lengths off Gimmethegreenlight previously, also beating Approval Rating twice – the latter a dual Gr3 winner in Zimbabwe by Miesque’s Approval.

Beautfilly-bred A.P. Answer, an outstanding individual as a stallion, has undergone Equinome’s gene testing and that it reveals that A.P. Answer is a C:T, meaning he would produce Sprinter-Miler types, based on his pedigree this might ring true.

Amongst his first smart winners he has produced, is Beckedorf [pictured left], placing in the Gr3 Godolphin Barb Stakes, and fourth in the Gr1 Gold Medallion and second to Same Jurisdiction in the KZN Yearling Sale Million.

Owned by Erich Buhr, he recently had his first start in five months in the Cape at Kenilworth, with a high quality field of a Graduation Plate that could have equalled a Gr1 race field.

Beckedorf finished impressively in third place to Gr2 winning Harry Lime by a length, whilst Gr1 winning Guiness finished a length behind Beckedorf for trainer Dennis Drier.

A stallion who clearly stamps his progeny along with their sire’s big muscular hindquarters, A.P. Answer has an outstanding pedigree with his immediate damline tracing to the likes of Storm Bird and Green Tune. A.P. Answer stands for R10 000 this season.

Congratulations to Peter and Jenny Blyth on a great day’s racing!
