Yellow Star Stud Annual Farm Sale Results

Top selling mare, Dynasty Dancer, in foal to Kildonan.

Yellow Star Stud held their Annual Farm Sale on the first day of Spring which was reflected by the blue skies and a beautiful day in the Midlands with buyers coming from far and wide to inspect the horses. It was another beautifully organised sale by Michael Holmes Bloodstock at the picturesque Yellow Star Stud, assisted by the brilliant auctioneer Graeme Hawkins.

A pleasant and easy sale to navigate with regards to pre-inspections with all of the sale horses situated in one area to view, it was quite refreshing and a testament to their lovely temperaments to see a few of the resident stallions relaxing and grazing in their paddocks – getting a few pats and head rubs and enjoying the company of the potential buyers inspecting the yearlings in the paddocks adjacent to them.

They included the eye-catching grey son of Galileo whose first foals are due this season – The Assayer, Lion Tamer (sire of Lion’s Emblem), Rocky Street and Meteor Shower all in the immediate vicinity.

Better known as the birthplace of multiple Gr1 winners Dancewiththedevil and Futura, Yellow Star Stud offered 63 horses ranging from Mares in foal and with foals, yearlings, two and three year olds and horses in training were catalogued. 50 Horses in total were sold and an aggregate of R364 000 achieved. Werner Hartkopf purchased 12 horses from mares in foal to yearlings.

The top selling mare was Dynasty Dancer for R17 000 to PJ Louwrens, an unraced daughter of Dynasty out of Song Of France by French Stress. From the immediate damline of Travel North, Vangelis and Rhapsody In Red as well as Shattered Image, she is due quite soon to foal to Kildonan. She has an unraced two year old and a yearling by Damage Is Done.

The top priced two year old colt sold for R20 000 to Michael Miller, a chestnut by Kildonan inbred to Forty Niner, out of an Argentine mare Miss Thalia.

The top priced Horses In Training were a filly and a gelding, who sold each for R32 000 and R33 000 respectively. The filly Sorbonne, a daughter of King Of Kings out of Jallad mare La Boutique went to PJ Louwrens. The five year old mare placed second in her last start to Mark My Card. This is the damline of Onehundredacrewood, Kiss Of Peace, At The Savoy and Gang Related.

Lot 62 Straw Man was the sales topper [pictured right], knocked down to Garth Puller for R33 000. One of the last sons of Icelander to race, he has placed four times including at Scottsville on the Sunday before the sale.

Thank you to all at Yellow Star for a wonderful day and wishing the buyers all the best with their purchases!
